Analisis Self Fulfilling Prophecy Tahanan Dewasa Menghadapi Putusan Hakim Di Rutan Kelas 1 Cirebon
Abstract
Self-Fulfilling prophecy (SFP) is a psychosocial phenomenon in which negative expectations from formal authorities can trigger behaviors that confirm those expectations. In adult detainees following a judicial decision, the "criminal" label potentially becomes internalized and hinders social reintegration. This study aims to analyze the influence of judicial decisions on the formation of SFP among adult detainees and their strategies to manage it at Class 1 Cirebon Detention Center. A qualitative descriptive approach with a phenomenological paradigm was employed, involving 10 adult detainees, 2 Community Counselors (PK), and 1 judge as informants. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation, then analyzed through data reduction, data display, and verification. The findings indicate that judicial decisions function as "definitions of the situation" that trigger negative expectations and internalization of the "criminal" label, particularly when sentences are perceived as unjust or overly severe. Initial psychological reactions such as shock, weakness, and depression emerged, followed by behaviors confirming the negative label. However, some detainees were able to regulate SFP through religious coping strategies, family support, and involvement in positive activities. The role of Community Counselors proved significant as facilitators and bridges for reintegration. In conclusion, judicial decisions can trigger negative SFP in adult detainees, yet their ability to regulate SFP is determined by social support, self-efficacy, and intervention from Community Counselors. This study recommends the need for routine psychological counseling services and cognitive restructuring-based guidance programs in detention centers.
