Abstract

This study aims to describe the forms of figurative language used in Abdur Arsyad's utterances in Stand-up Comedy videos on the Stand Up Kompas TV YouTube channel. This study employed a descriptive qualitative method with a stylistic approach. The data source consisted of Abdur Arsyad's performances in Stand-up Comedy Indonesia (SUCI) Season 4 uploaded to the Stand Up Kompas TV YouTube channel. The data were collected through documentation and non-participatory observation (Simak Bebas Libat Cakap / SBLC) techniques and analyzed using the interactive analysis model, which includes data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing and verification. The findings revealed that the forms of figurative language identified in the performances include simile, metaphor, personification, sarcasm, and satire. These forms of figurative language were used to create humor, clarify ideas, convey social criticism, and reinforce the messages delivered to the audience. It can be concluded that figurative language plays an important role in stand-up comedy performances, serving not only as a means of creating humorous effects but also as an effective medium for expressing social criticism and reflecting social realities
