The findings revealed that the students' interest in basic reading was still low. The contributing factors consisted of internal factors, including low learning motivation, emotional conditions, and lack of self-confidence, as well as external factors, including limited family support, inadequate reading materials, and less varied teaching methods. Based on the findings, it can be concluded that the low interest in basic reading is influenced by the interaction of internal and external factors. Therefore, collaboration among teachers, parents, and schools is needed to improve students' interest in reading.
