Abstract

The increasing use of social media among Indonesian children has prompted the government to enact Government Regulation No. 17 of 2025 on Electronic System Governance for Child Protection (PP TUNAS). This study aims to analyze urban parents' perceptions of the effectiveness of social media age verification systems in the implementation of PP TUNAS.

This research employs a descriptive quantitative approach using secondary data from the 2026 EVIDENT Institute survey involving 1,050 urban parents. The analysis focuses on describing parents' knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors regarding child protection policies in digital environments.

The findings indicate that 96.1% of respondents support age restrictions on children's social media use. However, 59.3% believe that current age verification systems are ineffective, while 38% report that social media platforms do not provide clear age verification mechanisms. In addition, 24.2% of respondents are unaware of PP TUNAS or its implementation timeline. Although 91% of parents impose restrictions on gadget use and 83.6% regularly monitor their children's online activities, most respondents still emphasize the need for stronger support from both government and digital platforms.

The study concludes that the successful implementation of PP TUNAS requires more effective age verification systems, improved digital literacy, and stronger collaboration among government institutions, digital platforms, schools, and families.
