Abstract

This research was motivated by the importance of meaningful learning
implementation in Science and Social Studies (IPAS) learning to help students
relate learning materials to their daily lives. Based on preliminary observations in
Grade IV at SDN 23 Cubadak, several obstacles were found during the learning
process, including low student participation, limited literacy skills, and the less
optimal use of learning media. This study aimed to analyze the implementation of
the Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) approach in IPAS learning, identify the
obstacles faced during the learning process, and determine efforts to improve
students’ participation and understanding. This research employed a descriptive
qualitative approach involving a Grade IV teacher and all 13 Grade IV students at
SDN 23 Cubadak as research subjects. Data were collected through observations
and interviews. The findings indicated that the CTL approach had been implemented
by connecting learning materials with students’ real-life experiences, making the
learning process more meaningful and helping students understand concepts more
easily. However, its implementation had not been fully optimal due to several
challenges, including passive student participation, low literacy abilities, and limited
learning media. Therefore, more varied learning media and more active and
enjoyable learning activities are needed to improve the quality of IPAS learning.
