ANALISIS KEMAMPUAN LITERASI MEMBACA SISWA KELAS III SEKOLAH DASAR

Abstract

This study aims to describe the reading ability of third-grade elementary school students and to identify the factors that influence it. The research employs a descriptive qualitative approach, with data collected through observations and interviews with students and teachers at an elementary school in Tangerang Regency. The findings indicate that students’ reading abilities vary and generally have not yet reached an ideal level. These abilities can be categorized into three groups: (1) students who are able to read well and comprehend the text, (2) students who can read fluently but have limited comprehension, and (3) students who experience difficulties in basic reading skills. Most students fall into the second and third categories, facing challenges such as lack of reading fluency, improper intonation, and low text comprehension. Furthermore, differences in students’ reading abilities are influenced by both internal and external factors. Internal factors include students’ interest and motivation in learning, while external factors involve reading habits at home, parental support, and the use of traditional teaching methods. Therefore, it is necessary to make improvements by implementing more varied, interactive, and student-centered teaching approaches to enhance students’ reading skills effectively.
