Abstract

This research is motivated by the low ability of grade X-J students at MAN Kota

Surabaya to recognize their self-potential, as well as a tendency toward a fixed

mindset. This condition causes students to feel incapable, fear trying new things,

and lack confidence when facing academic or daily challenges. These issues further

impact low learning motivation, lack of resilience, and the absence of clear life goals.

Therefore, this study aims to analyze the effectiveness of growth mindset-based

self-development training in increasing self-awareness, learning motivation, and the

students' ability to design more directed future goals. The research method

employed is a quantitative approach with a pretest-posttest design. The subjects

are students of class X-J who participated in the training through various

participatory methods, such as self-reflection, group discussions, personal SWOT

analysis, and the formulation of SMART goals. Data collection was conducted

through pretest and posttest sheets to measure changes in students' understanding

and attitudes, alongside observations to monitor participant engagement and

responses. The results indicate a significant increase in students' understanding of

self-concept and the growth mindset, marked by a stronger belief that abilities can

be developed through effort, practice, and learning from mistakes. Additionally,

students demonstrated positive behavioral changes, such as greater courage in

facing challenges, increased persistence, and a more open attitude toward criticism

and the learning process. Students' ability to formulate life goals also improved, as

evidenced by goals that are more specific, measurable, and realistic. In conclusion,

growth mindset-based self-development training is proven effective in helping

students develop their potential, boost learning motivation, and prepare them to face

future challenges with greater confidence and direction.
