ANALISIS KEMAMPUAN MEMBACA PERMULA SISWA KELAS 1 SDN 03 KERANGAN PURUN

Abstract

This study aims to identify the initial reading ability of grade I students at SDN 03 Kerangan Purun. This study uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive method to describe the real condition of students' reading ability in the field. The research subjects consisted of 18 students in class I. Data collection techniques were carried out through observation, interviews, and documentation, while data analysis used data reduction steps, data presentation, and conclusion drawn. The validity of the data was tested through triangulation techniques. The results of the study show that students' initial reading skills are still diverse. In general, students' abilities are classified into three categories, namely fluent, moderate, and sufficient categories. A total of 10 students are included in the fluent category with the ability to recognize letters, read simple syllables, words, and sentences well. A total of 7 students are in the medium category, namely they are able to read but still stutter and need guidance. Meanwhile, 1 student is in the sufficient category who still has difficulty in recognizing letters and reading syllables. The findings of this study show that students' initial reading skills are not evenly distributed, so efforts are needed to improve through more effective learning, continuous exercises, and special guidance for students who have reading difficulties.
